The last two weeks at Exclusive Angling Holidays

I can honestly say I have never experienced two successive weeks with such different weather and results.

The last week in April saw temperatures in the high twenties and low thirties followed by last Monday the temperature dropping to freezing. Yes, believe it or not on Tuesday we had about five hours of snow which settled on my car. Water temperatures dropped and even the fish decided it was too cold to do anything.

In spite of all this there is still some wonderful fishing to report.

Rouge

The last week in April saw Eamon and party managing over forty fish and over 1000lb. Several 30-plus mirrors and some good cats to over fifty pounds. A really good time was had by all but there were periods of quiet fishing when the bream decided to spawn and all the carp wanted was to eat the eggs.

Last week saw Mike and Neil fishing Rouge which started with a real bang. First day two fifty plus cats and many carp to thirty and smaller cats. I think about 15 fish were caught in the first 24 hours. This carried on until Monday when the temperature dropped and the cats went to sleep.

More carp came to the nets and over the whole week they managed three 30-plus carp four 50+ cats and in total 43 fish for 1127lbs. This gives an average weight of over 26lbs. Well done everybody.

Vert

The good weather during the last week in April in some really spectacular fishing with over two hundred fish caught. For much of the time the fishermen were only fishing one, or at the most two, rods each. To quote them: “It is impossible to keep the rods in the water”. They caught some very nice 20-plus carp and the biggest cat came out at over 40 lbs.

I know they really enjoyed themselves as they have booked again for later on this year and are moving up to ‘one of the big boys lakes'.

Bleu

This lake was fished by Ian on his own, except for two evening session when I joined him. Ian had fished Rouge the week before with his mates so he was looking for a quiet peaceful week.

No chance: 137 fish for a total weight of 2400+ lbs!

This doesn’t include the six fish I managed in the evening sessions (yes, I still have the knack of catching fish) The most notable mirror was 26lbs and the cats went to 60-plus. We do not talk about the big ones that got away.

I remember Ian saying he had over ten double takes which is a bit tough on your own but it certainly gets the adrenalin going.
